 July 25, 2007 -- The Peoples Palace in Bucharest. Inspired by a trip to Beijing, Nicolae Ceaucescu embarked on a feverish reconstruction campaign in Bucharest in the 1980s to build the second largest building in the world, next to the US Pentagon.
