The Great Wall stretches from Shanhaiguan pass on the east coast to Jiayuguan pass in the Gobi desert, crossing five provinces and two autonomous regions. The building of the wall began 2,000 years ago during the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BC), when China was unified under Emperor Qin Shihuang. The magnitude of the undertaking is very impressive, as you can see by this section which disappears in the distance over the horizon. Here's Sue and Rudy on the descent, photo taken by Trisna. |
