After a few days in Montevideo, we took a bus to the Uruguayan Riviera, to the resort town of Punta del Este. We found that due to the Argentinian financial crisis, the severe drop in tourists from Buenos Aires left the resort nearly empty, free for us to explore. We spent the last few days in Uruguay in the old colonial city of Colonia, about as far west from Montevideo as Punta del Este is east.
