February 22 - We began our 2-day Inca Trail hike, when the taxi picked us up at our hotel at 5:30 am. By 6:15 we were on the 'Backpacker' train, zig-zagging our way out of Cusco, heading toward Machu Picchu. At around 10:30 am the train made a stop. The trek began at kilometer 104 (104 kilometers along the railway from Cusco to the town of Aguas Calientes at the base of Machu Picchu). The train stopped for only a few minutes at Km 104 so we had to jump off quickly.
