January 15 - On January 14 we left Canada, arriving in Quito, Ecuador the next day. We planned to spend 3 months touring Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil, from where we would fly home on April 8.
Our first few days were spent seeing the city and relaxing at our hotel. We really noticed the effect of the 2800 metre altitude: we had difficulty climbing stairs and suffered from headaches. On our first night in Quito we had dinner at Fried Bananas, a small restaurant near our hotel.
