It's like stepping back in time. Imagine driving almost the entire length of an East Coast state without seeing fast food restaurants, tractor trailers or glaring billboards. In Virginia this miracle is made possible by a scenic stretch of highway that begins in Front Royal as Skyline Drive, runs the length of Shenandoah National Park and becomes the Blue Ridge Parkway near Waynesboro. From Waynesboro, the Parkway meanders 469 miles, all the way to the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina, offering magnificent views of valleys, forests and mountain ranges along the way.
