camping09 Tuesday, July 24, 2001 - The Cabot Tower, atop Signal Hill, Newfoundland.
It was at Signal Hill, St. John's, where Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless message, sent across the Atlantic from Poldhu in December 1901.
The Newfoundland Authorities provided Marconi with rooms in a disused military hospital on top of Signal Hill, a rocky eminence overlooking St. John's. On the summit of the hill, a flat area of land provided room for Marconi and Kemp to launch the kites to lift the aerial wire. It was from within this temporary station, that the first transatlantic signal was received.
