8/2/04: We stopped to check out piles of peat in the peat bogs of this region. One of the bogs' most enduring contributions to the Irish people has been fossil fuel. While in its natural state the peat, or "turf", is about 90% water and 10% solid. Its location near the surface means that it can be harvested and dried, a readily available economical fuel. |
