On our return to Capetown from Knysna we stopped to visit Nico, the boat's owner, who also planned to join us for the crossing. It was on the return drive that we began to feel that we probably would NOT make the crossing. The frustrations and disappointments of the increasing number of delays and unfulfilled promises and assurances that things were going to happen in the next few days gave us a sense that we were probably going to be sitting at the Holiday Inn in Capetown for a long time. We began to doubt our recent decision to call our friends Ed & Val at home and ask them to postpone our long-planned motorhome trip to Alaska until next year. After a long night of deliberating, phoning home, and discussing the options, Sue and Rudy bailed out. We called Ferdi with our decision, then had a painful meeting with Marina and Rohan with whom we had become such good friends. That done, we spent the last week of our time in Capetown enjoying what had become home for us for the past month. Here Rudy has another ice cream cone in front of the impressive Victoria Wharf Mall in Capetown. |
