The Legong dancers are porcelain dolls made up and costumed very elaborately. The come down the centre staircase and twitch their hands and fingers, jerky movements of their arms and necks, eyes rolling like a puppet's from side to side. It goes on for over an hour. Dragons and monkeys and old fat emperors join the lady dancers. One musician at the back 'narrates' the epic tales in a wavering and somewhat muffled voice. Flash photography doesn't work, and without flash it's just a blur. We sit through most of the show.
