On Feb.24 we said goodbye to Putri and our apartment in Sanur. We walked out to the street and met a taxi driver who had been hanging out in front of our hotel since the day we arrived. We hired him to take us to Ubud. He volunteered that he would make a few stops along the way. Our first stop was at this 'Batik' clothing shop. We watched artists first draw the design, then trace the lines with hot beeswax. Then the cloth is dyed after which the wax is dissolved, leaving the deep rich colors and the fine crinkle lines that give batik its character.
