These canang offerings are everywhere! Each morning Putri, our hotel manager, would come around with a big tray of them and set one in every place where the gods might bump into them. So canang are not only placed in temples and shrines, but any strategic locations of importance, including right in front of the entrance, on the sidewalk! As all offerings in Bali are made from natural things, canang is formed from a coconut palm leaf square basket filled with a slice of banana or sugar cane, a few grains of rice, vibrant hues of flowers and shredded leaf on top. People set them down with a waft from a stick of incense and a sprinkle of holy water.
