September 27, 2001 – Terelj

We travelled by bus into the spectacular countryside of vast green grasslands and rocky outcrops. At 1600m, the area was cool and the alpine scenery was magnificent.

Here we stopped at one of the many 'rockpiles', where according to Mongolian tradition, we circled 3 times and three rocks at the pile. That's our tour guide, David, on the left, and Trisna and 'Australian Sue' in the foreground. Just as we were about to leave, a convoy of Landrovers appeared and a group of locals got out and did their ceremonial stone-throwing -- evidentlya wedding party from a nearby village, wishing for good luck.
