We passed several large and elaborate dachas (country homes, used primarily for growing fresh vegetables, rather than simply weekend getaways) which belong to "new Russians." That rather telling term refers to people who mysteriously got large sums of money in the post-communist era. One is not to inquire too closely as to the sources of wealth.
