HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR EUROPEAN HOLIDAY

July 14 to 28, 1997

Back to my Travel Page
This summer the Nikkel family went on a "house exchange" holiday to Switzerland and Germany. We spent a week and a half at the home of Edwin & Christa Wiebe, in Bubendorf, Switzerland, while the Wiebes stayed at our house in Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada, where they were visiting Edwin's parents. We were welcomed by the Bubendorf "kibbutz" and especially by Eva and Pavel Kraus and their children, Mischa and Janna, who were most gracious hosts and tour guides. We used the Wiebes' bicycles to cycle around the Basel area, and had a very relaxing and enjoyable time. Thanks Pavel and Eva!

After we left Bubendorf, we spent a night in Interlaken before driving through the Alps from Grindelwald to Chur. Great weather, great scenery, great road. From Chur we went to Möckmühl, Germany, to visit our good friends Peter and Ruthild Scheffler-Kroeker and their four children, Rachel, Noemi, Micha, and Tabea. They hosted us from Friday to Sunday. We enjoyed home-cooked food, great conversation (including stories from Ruthild's father who was also there for the weekend), a Saturday afternoon excursion to the old historic village of Bad Wimpfen, and a Sunday morning church service in the church that Pete pastors. We particularly enjoyed the Kroeker kids, who entertained us and made us feel welcome. Thanks all of you for your generous hospitality.

Below are a few snapshots of our holiday.
