Bolivia 2003: By bus from Quito, Ecuador to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
...........................................................

March 1 - Isla del Sol is often considered to be the birthplace of the Incas. The island, measuring only 9km long by 6km wide, is one of the most spectacular places in all of Bolivia. On the north end are Challapampa and some fascinating Inca ruins. Yumani, on the south end, is the largest town on the island and also the site of the Inca steps.
We took a day trip from Copacabana to the Sun Island. We left Copacabana at 8:15am and arrived at Challapampa around 10:30am. We walked from here all the way to the Fuente del Inca on the southern end of the island. Along the way, we came across wild llamas, herds of sheep, and some of the most breathtaking vistas in the world. The hike was difficult and more than 4 hours long. We had to make sure to get there in time for the last boat to Copacabana, which left at 4pm.
