camping06 Monday, July 23, 2001 - Old Cape Spear Lighthouse
Twenty miles east of St. John's, a long headland runs into the sea. Known as Cape Spear, it is the most easterly point in North America. In 1835, Cape Spear was the site of Newfoundland's second lighthouse. A classically styled keepers house was constructed high atop the 300 foot sandstone cliff and a stone light tower was built in its centre, anchoring the house to the rock. The original lighthouse is the centrepiece of a National Historic Park opened by Prince Charles and Lady Diana in 1983. Here Sue does her impression of Lady Di.
