We get on our bus and head a few kilometers down the road to the Chilean border. We can see the glacier high up in the mountain where in a day or two the Dakar Rally will pass through. In fact, often this tour would go up there to the famous 'Christ the Redeemer' statue that symbolizes the friendship between the two countries on either side of this mountain range. But the glacier needs to be 'cut' first, and this year it is only now warming up enough for the equipment to go up and cut the road. We pass the road equipment as it is going up to prepare the pass for the Rally vehicles.
