Next we reach the mountain town of Uspallata, an oasis of poplar trees set in desolate dessert valley. This is where trekkers often make their base. Here we take a short coffee break before we continue our trip through mountain scenery made famous in the movie 'Seven Years in Tibet' and 'The Motorcyle Diaries'. This will be our bathroom break. Of course, with 6 or more big tour busses stopping at the same place, the big truck-stop cafeteria-style restaurant couldn't really handle all the tourists. The line-up for the women's room went right through the restaurant to the entrance. This would not be a 20 minute stop. Sue bought oranges and a 7-up. We ate the oranges outside at a picnic table. We waited to open the 7-up until quite a bit later, on the bus, when the high altitude caused the soda to explode out of the top and soak Sue's scarf and pants and our backpack with sticky pop.
